Q: What is wrong with my internet?

I use Safari, and yesterday I noticed almost every page was loading more slowly than usual. Streaming of music on SoundCloud.com and of videos on MLSsoccer.com  is interrupted every few seconds by buffering, though Youtube and videos on Facebook seem to be working fine. There are four total devices in my house: two stationery PCs (one of which is the computer that I use), one laptop and one iPad Mini. These streaming problems seem to persist on the other stationery PC and the iPad, but not on the laptop. Downloading does not seem to be significantly slower than usual.

Last night we had guests staying with us, who added two laptops to the total number of devices in the house, and were on the internet pretty frequently, which made me think last night that the problem was attributable to them and would go away when they left and took their devices with them. But they are now out of the house and the problem is as bad as ever.

I have tried

  • Clearing the browser history
  • Clearing the computer's cache
  • Restarting my router
  • Restarting the computer
  • Deleting everything from my downloads folder
  • Checking to ensure applications which use a lot of streaming power (such as Spotify) are not active
  • Checking to ensure there are no updates waiting to be installed
  • Resetting Safari
  • Downloading a different browser (Google Chrome) and checking to see if the problems persist on it

Any ideas?

Click on go > hold option key & don't release it > click on library find folders , caches , cookies , saved application state , safari .

Open each folder select all contents of it by using command + A , then delete them by key board short cut : command + delete .

    into the trash .

Restart from apple logo & empty the trash .

If the above doesn't work, try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
