Q: Question about preventing deletion of pics and videos from my Macpro

I have an Apple 5 C Iphone with only 8 gigs of storage.  Recently I imported a a lot of pics and videos to my Macpro save storage space  in my Iphone. I then deleted pics permanently from my Iphone.  But unfortunately,  I found that they got deleted from my Macpro also when I deleted them from my I phone.  Now I can't recover about 350 photos and a few videos!  How to prevent this from happening again? Since I use I Cloud, anything I do in I phone affects the Mac Pro also.  Please let me know how to delete photos and videos from my I phone without getting them deleted from my Macpro.  I use my Macpro as a back up to save pics nad videos.  SO if they get deleted automatically from there, what is the use of using the Macpro for back up?

    Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. I know how important it is to recover deleted photos from iCloud as well. The good news is if you're using iCloud across your devices and delete photos, there should be an option to recover deleted photos.

    How do I delete photos and videos from a device using iCloud Photo Library?

    If you want to remove photos and videos from all your iOS devices, Mac, and iCloud.com, you can delete them in the Photos app. 

    When you delete a photo or video from your Photos app, it will also delete from your iCloud Photo Library and iCloud storage. You can recover your photos and videos from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days.

     

    Also, it's going to tell you steps to turn off iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone to clear up space on it and give you tips for using iCloud across your devices. Specifically:

     

    How do I turn off iCloud Photo Library on just one device?

    You can turn off iCloud Photo Library on a single device when you follow these steps:

    • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > iCloud > Photos and turn off iCloud Photo Library.
    • On your Mac, go to System Preferences > iCloud > Options next to Photos, then deselect iCloud Photo Library.
    • On your Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > Accounts > iCloud and under Photos press Select to turn off iCloud Photo Library.

    If you have Optimize Storage turned on, you might not have all of your original photos and videos on your device. To download the original photos and videos on your iOS device, go to Settings > iCloud > Photos and select Download and Keep Originals. On your Mac, open Photos, choose Photos > Preferences, then select Download Originals to this Mac. Then you can turn iCloud Photo Library off. You can also select the photos and videos that you want to download from iCloud.com.
