Q: Trackpad Slow to Respond

My 2013 15" Retina display MacBook Pro is having trouble with the trackpad. For about a week now the trackpad seems less sensitive to touch and is slow is responding. I have tried cleaning it and turning up the tracking speed under settings but neither worked. Turning up the speed made it jumpier and slowing it down made it hard to hit precise targets on the screen because I would have already passed them by the time it responded. Has anyone else had this issue and knows what to do?

    Hi emma78,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you are having an issue with sensitivity and slowness on your MacBook Pro's Trackpad. I use the Trackpad a lot on my MacBook, so I know how important it is we get this working correctly. I have several things for you to try.

First, it's always good to make sure that you have a recent backup of your MacBook Pro's important data. This article will help make sure you have a backup:

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac

Next, I see you are running OS X Yosemite (10.10). I would advise using the steps found in this article to update OS X:

Update the software on your Mac

Make sure that you have the latest software updates installed, specifically this section:

To check for Mac software updates, open the App Store app on your Mac, then click Updates in the toolbar. If updates are available, click the Update buttons to download and install them.

Updates pane of Mac App Store

The Mac App Store shows updates for Mac, not updates for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you don't have the App Store on your Mac, get OS X updates by choosing Software Update from the Apple () menu.

If you still have an issue after updating OS X, try the tips in this article:

If your pointer is jumpy when you use a trackpad, Magic Trackpad, or Magic Mouse - Apple Support

    Best Regards.
