Q: AirPlay dropouts 10.11.5

I just upgraded my late 2013 iMac to 10.11.5. I've had lots of dropouts with iTunes broadcasting to AirPlay since I did - and it had been running pretty nicely of late, until now. Don't see any serious channel conflicts with iStumbler.

I've got an Airport Extreme base station which I extend with an Express. Speedtest shows data transmitting fine.

Any ideas?

    Hi ..

Try a soft reset on the Airport Extreme >  Resetting an AirPort base station FAQ - Apple Support

Is the issue just with AirPlay streaming from iTunes, hosted on your Mac? ... or from any streaming source on the Mac?

Wi-Fi interference is just not from other nearby Wi-Fis. Other sources of interference can be caused by portable phones, microwave ovens, wireless speakers, baby monitors, etc. So I wouldn't necessarily rule this out just yet.

You stated that you are also using the Express to extend an AirPort Extreme wireless network. Is this being done using a wired or wireless connection between them? If wireless, where is the Express located in relation to the Extreme ... same room, different room, or different floor? What exact models are each of your base stations?

The soft restart did not work.  I have Time Machine plugged into the modem that is extended twice using airport extremes (we have a very long house!).

Did you intend to respond to Carolyn Samit or me? I didn't mention a soft reset to the OP.

Also, you cannot use 802.11n or 802.11ac AirPort base stations, in series, to extend a wireless network. That was only available for the older 802.11g models only.
