Q: iPod Touch Shuffle Reset When Connected to Car

Hi Everyone,

I have a 5th Generation iPod touch. I load songs on and I have a very specific way that I use it. I turn on shuffle and listen through on random. The goal is that I only hear each song once or else I easily tire of songs if I hear them too frequently over a short amount of time. I have no issues when I connect the device to my Logitech iPod stereo at home. However, when I connect the device to my car's USB connection, it often resets the shuffle regardless of if I'm 10% through or 90% through. I had an older iPod Classic (6th generation) that would connect to the car and continue playing where I had left off when I last listened to it. However, I cannot seem to set up the iPod touch to do the same thing. Sometimes it does pick up where it left off, but at least 1 out of 3 times it resets, with no rhyme or reason that I can figure out. My hard-drive finally died on the iPod classic this week so, short of buying another old iPod on ebay, what steps can I take to fix my problem? Thanks in advance!

You can try the following but it may be due to a slight incompatibility with the car system. If that is the case then only a firmware update to car or iPod can resolve it

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    - Unsync/delete all music and resync

To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music

    - Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

    - Restore from backup. See:

Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204184

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
