Q: Mac Pro 2006 New SSD Not Showing

Hi there,

I have a Mac Pro 2006 and have recently installed a new SSD (Crucial SATA 6GB/S M500 120GB). I've used the Icy Dock 2.5" to 3.5" converter so it fits fine in the hard drive slot but when I boot up the Mac it's not showing at all in disk utility and about this mac. I've tried booting up the mac with just the new SSD in and it wouldn't boot and I've also tried fitting the SSD in different hard drive slots but no luck. Am I missing out a step? Should it just appear when booting up or do you have to install any new software? I'm wondering whether the SSD is compatible with this mac but online there are videos of people installing the same type of drive in a mac pro 2006...

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Mac Pro 1.1 2006

Seems that either the SSD is bad or more likely you are not getting a good connection between the SATA connector on the SSD and on the logic board.

As a test you can take the SSD out of the Icy dock and insert it directly in the SATA connector on the logic board. You might what to use tap or similar to help avoid using SATA connector as the only support for the SSD.

Does the SSD work in another computer or in an enclosure connect via USB?

What would you need to plug the SSD into another computer? I haven't tried this.

    Replace the internal SATA cable
