Q: So purchasing the apple tv box has us purchasing progams. What good comes of this over cable?
The Apple TV Box must get it's programs from somewhere. I really doubt that signing up for a package containing a wide variety of programs for a basic monthly fee?
If this is not how programs are used to stream, can this be compared to the cost of Cable TV? Dependent upon What Cable programs are in a package, the cost would come to $120 with box rental and remote. This includes Internet and wired Phone. Please sell me the Apple TV box with it's arrangement of programs to be
packaged. With the ver 4 Apple TV We could say that a 3 year package deal with programs included would equal about $100 yearly amount.

That isn't how AppleTV works. Content is available through apps, some free, some not; some have subscriptions available (such as HBO) and other require that you already have access to the same programming via Cable or Satellite. And there is some content available that your Cable company would not offer.
If you are set on keeping some specific cable channels that you already have, this may not be a via ble method of "cutting the cable".
