Jun 22, 2016 10:30 PM in response to Madame 6by sberman,OS X Mavericks 10.10.5 can still run the current version of iTunes.
On the iMac, go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
That should get iTunes 12.4.1. You can then sync the iPad to the iMac, and the iPad's playlist updates will occur on the iMac.

Jun 23, 2016 6:39 PM in response to sbermanby Madame 6,Unfortunately this was my undoing. After having to resort to a restore (stuck in the never ending apple screen/ inset cord loop on my ancient iPad2) I lost all of the playlists on the iPad, it's not a huge deal just my time. Why I stopped buying music in iTunes in 2010 and why I will use VLC to make all future play lists. Yes I love my Macs (I've several), I've had one since 1996 Powerbook 1400, the direction of the operating systems and software not so much.
Thanks for the help everyone,
One sad, formerly militant Mac user
