    More than I can afford.

If you mean are there HD enclosures you can use with an iMac, yes.

The expandable ones are very easy.

Regarding the RAM question... The newer 21.5 inch iMacs are not (at all) easily upgradeable from a RAM standpoint. They are basically glued shut and the RAM is soldered to the circuit boards. A 27 inch model is easily user upgradeable. If you go to the Apple logo at the top left of your screen and click on "About this Mac", then click on the "Memory" tab you will see a window similar to the one below which will give you an indication of the installed memory and if there are any empty slots available. ALso, the link below contains other details.

21.5" iMacs cannot have the RAM upgraded however 27" models can be easily upgraded up to 64GB of RAM! If you do upgrade a 27" model only use quality RAM from either Crucial (buy direct) or OWC (www.macsales.com).

Regarding EHD's sure you can have many connected. I have 5 on my 27" iMac that are all daisy chained together. You can also buy enclosures that can house multiple HD"s connected via Thunderbolt to the iMac. OWC makes one enclosure that can house up to 4 HD's or up to 24TB of external storage. You can buy it empty and populate it with HD's of your choice.

Thanks for all the information guys, much appreciate.

I"m looking to purchase a 27" iMac over the weekend.

I have a early 2009 Mac Pro and it died last week. I suspect it may be a tired PSU, so I have ordered a replacement.

I really can't afford the new Mac Pro, so I have opted for the iMac.

Will I be able to utilise my old Mac Pro for things like server, rendering etc?

I plan to use sofwatre such as after effects, premier pro, photo shop, maya and ZBrush, so I though my old Mac Pro might be able to help with rendering or even storage as it has 4 internal HD bays.

    So, I just wasted £90.

    Replaced PSU and no difference.

    What next?

If you mean what you can do with your Mac Pro, about all you can do is contact a local Apple Authorized Service Provider and see if they will look at it and repair it if possible or practical.
