Jun 24, 2016 10:06 AM in response to LillyDog259by Skydiver119,You can try to force it to reboot, which may or may not accomplish anything since it won't stay on. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. If you see the silver Apple, let go and let it reboot.
Another thing, did the battery have a charge? If ipad batterie drain down to nothing it can take up to half an hour with them plugged into an outlet to show some signs of life. So you could also try to wait and see if you get a response.
Another possibility is that it's battery is dead (they do have a finite life span). You can replace the batteries but honestly, speaking as a fellow iPad 2 owner, I'm not sure if the around $100 price tag is worth it or would be better spent put towards a new device.(I know when mine dies it's just gone, I won't pay to fix it.)
If you have an apple store nearby you could make an appointment and take it in and have them check it out. However there's a very good chance they will recommend just replacing it.
