Q: So, I started having this issue after the program ended. Am I just out of luck?

Is there any chance I could get Apple to still do the replacement or am I just stuck with an unstable machine? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Some additional details about my machine:

MacBook Pro 15" (Mid 2010)

2.4 GhHz Intel Core i5

4GB 1067 MHz DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256MB

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

You will not get a free logic board replacement from Apple.  You will have to pay for that.

However you can install this application that will allow you to disengage the discrete GPU and only use the integrated one:

    https://gfx.io/

There will be a degradation of video performance.

    Ciao.

That's pretty much what I assumed. I'll give your suggestion a try.

I just went to Apple Store this afternoon with booking from the Genius Bar and they said that they cannot fix it at all, even if I pay. It is a bit weird. A guy tried to help me there and when he realised that was MacBook Pro 15 inch Mid-2010, he just stopped to have a look at the pc and said "we cannot fix this anymore" and "free to charge situation ended last year" but I just found this topic, which says this ended just 3 months before. There are a few weird situations I have.

1-) This computer has a factory fault and every brands should support spare parts at least 10 years as I knew.

2-) If this is a common problem and not caused by user, why does apple still need a due date to end this support?

3-) gfxCardStatus is not useful anymore, it basicly just shows to user that which graphics card is active during time, nothing else.

4-) This guy also suggested something to me and that was a bit weird as well. Maybe he was just trying to help me but it was not expecting that. He said that I can just order a second hand logic board from internet or if I go to China, there are some good technicians and they can just change my graphics chipset.

Nope, they were not good points at all for apple in my mind.

I know that it's out of warranty at the moment but this is not an user caused issue, that is why I was expecting that they could help me.

Being an Apple products user just as you, I have no control over Apple's policies.  The only other option that you might consider is a 'reflow' which is a high risk proposition which may or may not work.

I am surprised to hear that gfxCardStatus does not allow to select the integrated GPU.  Perhaps you need to use an older version:

    https://software.com/mac/apps/gfxcardstatus/1.8.1

    No guarantees here.

    Ciao.
