Q: iPod 7G not recognised by iTunes

Since I bought a new PC which runs Windows 10, iTunes does not recognise my iPhone 5 or my two 7G iPod nanos. It does recognise my iPod 3G nano. All of my devices are recognised on another PC so they are not faulty. I have tried Apple Help, followed dozens and dozens of suggestions on Google and YouTube, paid a computer technician for 2 hours and he couldn't fix it. I have explained the problem to two university IT students and they couldn't offer any suggestions I haven't already tried. I am prepared to buy the latest iPod if Apple guarantee that I can return it if iTunes on my PC will not recognise it.

    Hi profecto,

    Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities!

    I understand that iTunes is not recognizing several of your devices, iPhone 5 and two iPod nanos (7th Generation) when you connect it to your computer running Windows 10. We know how frustrating situations like this can be, especially since your iPod nano (3rd Generation) is recognized. We’re here to help.

    It sounds like you have completed a lot of troubleshooting already.  But without knowing what steps you have completed, I suggest working through the steps in the specific order listed in the resource below:

    Cheers!

    Hello Joe_7399

    Thanks for replying, but that was one of the first things I tried. I went through the steps again this morning but I still have the same problem. I have spent literally days, all up the best part of a week, going through many many suggestions, all to no avail.

    My preferred option now would be to buy the latest model iPod on condition that I could return it wasn't recognised by iTunes but I can't see the Apple store agreeing to that.

    Second option - iTunes recognises all of my devices on my little laptop, so I will try to transfer my audible.com library to the laptop and just give up on using my nice new all-in-one 23" PC for music and audiobooks.

    This has almost driven me insane and I don't have the time or the will to keep banging my head against the same wall.

    Thanks again.

    I have the exact same problem. With Windows asking to format my ipod and itunes asking to restore it. The only difference is that my ipod is 7th generation. I'm using Windows 10 updated via insider program too. Waiting for an answer as soon as possible.

    Mine were 7th Generation too, Windows 10. I must have tried close to 100 suggestions from the internet, 3 computer techs, and even Apple Help. In the end, NOTHING worked.

    Having spent so much time and money and emotional energy on it and getting nowhere, I had to give up before I went crazy. I have stopped trying to use iTunes on my Windows 10 PC and am using a small laptop instead. Funny how my 7th Generation iPods work fine with iTunes on laptop (Windows 8.1) but are stubbornly not recognised by iTunes on my Windows 10 PC.

    My sympathy to you with your problem, hope you find the answer soon.

    I have an iPod nano 7th generation and I'm having the same problem described here. Windows 10 Insider asks for formatting it and iTunes asks for restoring it. Both things done and the cycle restarts endlessly. And my iPod now is just a radio... No music from my library... Sad final purpose to a great product until some time ago.

    This appears to be an issue caused by recent builds of Windows 10 that affects non-iOS iPods. I suggest you send information about your experience to iTunes Feedback and Microsoft via the Feedback Hub so that they might work on resolving the problem.

    I had the same problem. Followed all the steps in the faq, but nothing helped.

    So did a different approach.

    I uninstalled iTunes, but also all app's labeled Apple like:
    * Apple Application Support (32-bit)

    * Apple Application Support (64-bit)

    * Apple Mobile Device Support

    * Apple Software Update

    And an app called Bonjour

    Restarted the pc (reboot).

    Reinstalled iTunes

    after reinstall reboot and my nano's got connected again

    I did all the steps you said, but the error remains: Windows 10 Insider asking for format and Itunes 12.4.1 asking for restore my ipod nano 7th generation. I'm stucked on my radio player...

    Thanks.
