Q: I load a movie on my ipad at work on office network, then go home to another network, and itv doesn't see the movie.  Home sharing is turned on

Home Sharing has never worked for me.  I have it turned on with every device:  ipad, iphone, itunes, itv - no sharing.  I loaded a movie on my ipad to watch on a long plane flight, didn't watch it, and wanted to watch it at home on itv.  Nope...............

Home sharing is for sharing content within iTunes (on a computer) over a local network. You would need to use AirPlay from an iPad. If it is a rental then there is a limited time to view once you hit play. Any iTunes content would also need an internet connection to ping server for verification

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

    1. Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    2. Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    3. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    4. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    5. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    6. Restart your mobile device.
