Q: MBP Retina Late 2013 runs really hot while playing games on Windows 10

Hi everyone,

I recently installed Bootcamp on my MacBook Retina Late 2013 (Quad Core i7 @ 2.3GHz, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB SSD) using the current Bootcamp drivers. After successfully installing Windows 10 and all updates, I went and installed the latest drivers from nVidia for the GeForce GT 750M and got ready to play some old games, like Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars or Anno 1404. But despite these games being 5-10 years old, the fans kicked in pretty much right away and stayed at full blast. This happens every time I play one of these games, no matter how I set the resolution or graphical details. Does anyone have the same Problem or an idea how to fix this? It's really annoying and I would think a high-end 2013 MacBook Pro can handle games from the previous decade without its fans running at full blast the entire time.

I tried finding out what's causing this in Task Manager, but as soon as I Alt-Tab out of the game, the CPU/GPU usage goes way down and everything seems to be idling, at least according to Task Manager.

Thanks

André

Please check power management settings. If you use a case for your 2013 Mac, the heat dissipation surface (and surface area) becomes smaller.

Older Macs may also need Fans serviced to clean them out. Please check iFixit guides for instructions.
