It sounds like you are unable to get your new SIM working in your iPhone 5s. There may be a couple reasons why this is occurring. If you are sure that your device is unlocked and can be used with different network service providers, then please try the steps in the links below to assist with resolving your invalid SIM issue:
If you can‘t activate your iPhone
If you get an alert about the SIM card in your iPhone
You may need to contact the network provider to verify that the SIM is active. This should do the trick.
