Q: Airport Firmare Update

I have been trying to update the firmware in my Airport for the last month with no luck. I always get "An error occurred while downloading the firmware" The current firmware version installed in mu Airport is 7.6.4, I ma connected to the internet fine as I am writing this message form the same computer on the network.  Can anyone point in the right direction to get it fix?

Thanks,

iMac, Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier

If you are getting a download error there may be something preventing the download from getting to your computer so that it can be installed on the AirPort base station.

There is a workaround that allows you to manually download the firmware for your base station, and then, go through the installation process using the AirPort Utility.

It does require that you know the exact product ID of your base station as each firmware build is specific.

If you are interested it trying this we can provide you with more details.

However, before going this route, I would suggest that you first perform a "factory default" reset on your base station, and then, try upgrading the firmware again.

In addition to the comments from Tesserax, it might be a good idea to try the following.....if you have not already done so..... to make sure that your Mac is connected to the AirPort router using a wired Ethernet cable connection for the update process.

That would mean that an Ethernet cable connects from one of the three LAN <--> ports on the AriPort router to the Ethernet port on the Mac.....and....that the WiFi has been temporarily turned off on the Mac.
