Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I see from your post that you have been unable to empty the trash on the Mac for the past few days. I like to keep my Mac trash empty as well, so I can understand the concern. I will be happy to provide some information on this.

You can‘t empty the Trash or move a file to the Trash
If you haven't already please try to empty trash in another user account. This will help us determine if the issue is system wide or user specific. See this article for more information:

If you are still unable to empty the trash in another user account, please boot the Mac into Safe Mode and test.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

Select the Finder
Select Relaunch this might stop the process that stopping the Trash from emptying.
If this fails, have you tried restarting? You might have to force your computer to restart. If you don't hold down the power button long enough the Mac just goes into sleep mode.
