App Thinning allows for only the features that work for your device to be downloaded rather than the entire app with features that will not work on that particular device. It saves space on iOS devices.
Apps no longer transfer from your device into iTunes. You can set automatic downloads up in iTunes for Apps. You will still have to update apps in iTunes as well as on your device or just update in iTunes and then sync.
