Q: I want to change the name of my bluetooth device in iOS.

Attended a meeting yesterday.  Several others in the room had the same Logitech Ultrathin BT keyboard.  So, the connect list was a mile long.  Each attempt to connect failed as others were connecting to each others keyboards......no way to tell who's keyboard belonged to whom.  Everyone gave up on trying to use the Logitech keyboard.  A bit frustrating to say the least.  This should be a simple fix......but, doesn't look like it unless I'm willing to jailbreak my iPad?

Check the OP. We are trying to rename paired devices, not the phone itself.

A jailbroken phone and Android can do this no problem.

I have submitted requests to Apple twice to get this as a feature. They are not listening to what users need.

Just my $0.02 on the topic as both an IOs and Android user (I now use Android devices only in the house and not as portable devices as I switched to iPhone/iPad for travel), I find this shortcoming of IOs embarrassing for Apple.

My wife and I have identical iPhones with each of us having identical bluetooth speakers and BT Keyboards. I actually have to walk outside the house if my wife speaker or keyboard is turned on and not paired. Either that or I have to find it, turn it off and pair mine. Since we purchased these devices when we were both on Android, it wasn't a problem. I named mine and she named hers. Easy peasy.

Since switching to iPhone, it is a royal pain. So much so that I purchased a new Keyboard for my iPad (I am writing a book), not exclusively for this reasons but it was a consideration (The new keyboard is a bit bigger and has a slot to keep the iPad straight, plus it is a 3 device unit, meaning I have a selector and I can use it to drive my iPad, iPhone and PC at the same time and switch among them as needed).

It's high time Apple addresses this. I can't imagine how frustrating this must be in an office where everyone uses the same equipment.

+1 to this issue. I have 3 headphones of the same brand and type. They all are the same. It's impossible to figure out which is which. Simply having a local name for each would save a lot of trouble - and it's something that Mac OS can do so why not iOS?

No one here could answer that for you. Submit your feedback to Apple requesting such a feature here:

    Hi all,

Let us all request Apple to introduce renaming Bluetooth devices as soon as possible.

    here is the link: http://www.apple.com/feedback

    Example;

Dear Apple, please introduce the option to rename Bluetooth devices as soon as possible.

I would like that because of: ....

    Kind regards,

That's true but not what people here are mad about.  It's that you can't change the names of the bluetooth devices that your iPad sees.  So, if you (like me) have the same model Bluetooth speaker in different rooms, you can't figure out which one is which!

I do not think Apple has a solution for this. Since we do not have a way of controlling how devices are named by the manufactures the solution is only one - ask Apple to allow us to enter an alias to a Bluetooth device.

Hello, any update on Apple or manufacturers allowing devices to be renamed?

Seems to be a function the manufacturers need to build into their options.

I have 2 Bluetooth devices I can rename with their app, which is great, as the iPhone shows about 8 Bluetooth devices and I can immediately see which Bluetooth device (speaker) is for the loungeroom.
