Q: Apple Earpods Controls Glitching

I have a pair of apple earpods that when connected to either my iPhone 5s or mac randomly self-presses the button used to activate Siri. I've had these headphones for several months already. When the headphones are connected to my iPhone, usually Siri randomly pops up and goes away. Also when watching a video on YouTube, it randomly pauses and unpauses the video or sometimes even restarts the video all while activating Siri randomly and it has been getting very randomly. On my Mac, keeping the headphones plugged in causes a similar effect and randomly plays and pauses music from my iTunes. My guess is that it could be something in the headphones, like with the wiring, since I've accidentally had my phone drop out of my hand a few times with the headphones connected. Is there anyway to fix this or is my best bet to buy a new pair?

    I see that you are having an issue with your EarPods randomly activating Siri on your iPhone, and randomly playing and pausing music in iTunes on your computer. I use the EarPods with my Apple devices as well, so I know it's important we get these working correctly. I have several things I would like you to check. 

     

    First, if you have another pair of EarPods, please try and test with those to see if you get the same result. This is a good isolation test to see if it's happening with just one specific pair of EarPods. 

     

    Next, I'd recommend restarting both devices that are using the EarPods, and then testing to see if you get the same result. 

     

    And finally, you'll want to look into hardware coverage for these EarPods. Your Apple EarPods are an accessory that's included with your iPhone. Your iPhone and it's accessories are included in the One (1) Year Limited Warranty from the date you purchased your iPhone, and would also be covered under any extended coverage, i.e. AppleCare+.
