Q: Upgrade to Windows 10

Hi

I'm trying to upgrade Windows 7 service pack 1 (64 Bit) to Windows 10, running in Bootcamp 5 on my Mac Mini (late 2014), with OSX 10.10.5.

I have updated OSX to where I have a message that no updates are available in the App Store, I've also run Apple Software Updater in Windows 7 till there are no updates available.

When I run the Windows 10 upgrader, I get a message that the update can proceed because 'Intel(R) Iris(TM) Graphics 5100, this device is not supported'.

I downloaded and ran Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5769 from the Apple Support Site in Windows 7, and now Apple Software Update installs version 2.2.150, checks and wants to install 2.2.150 again. I've downloaded the the update using 'Tools' and run it locally, but that's not helped.

I've also run Brigadier using the .exe file, it runs and downloads data into a folder it creates, says it has downloaded it's stuff, but the folder is empty.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Your GPU should be Intel 5K or Intel 6K series. The i5/i7 should be your CPU.

Do you get any additional updates if you run Windows Update? Be careful with the drivers from W7. Is it possible to try a clean installation of W10?

Windows update says everything is up to date. I'm trying to use the free upgrade to W10 before MS start to charge, so I have nothing to use for a clean install. Can I get an iso image from anywhere that will allow a clean install?

Can you backup all your important data files, before you remove Windows? If you have Winclone, it would be good to have a Winclone backup, in case it needs to be restored.

I tried a clean install from a USB created using the MS media creation tool and got the same error message.

I started the setup file on the USB, it went through checks for updates, T/Cs and checked everything was ready, then produced a window with

    'What needs your attention.

This device isn't compatible in Windows 10. Contact the manufacturer for more info.

Intel Iris Graphics 5100 (Intel Corporation)'.

Do not use a USB created by Windows MC. The BC Assistant incorporates Apple drivers in $WinPEDriver$ and is a better option. Can you use BCA and a Microsoft ISO to create a USB installer and try?

So many thanks, that worked. It restored the drive to one partition and erased the old Windows 7 partition.

I had to restart the install in BCA from scratch after it wiped the old partition, it then allowed me to create a new partition and make a clean install of W10 using my old product key. Now I just need to install my old bits and pieces...

I did have to open the ISO file in the Mac finder to get BCA to recognise it as a valid file. Should I now use Windows MC to create a bootable USB for the future, or stick with the BCA one?

Once again thank you so much.

Create a dMG file of the BCA-created USB Installer and preserve it for future recovery, if you need it. Install BC drivers and create a backup of OSX, Windows on separate external drives, if possible. Create a Windows System Restore point and check that Device Manager does not have any unknown devices.

The only missing a driver is for 'Network Controller', no updates are available according to Windows. I'm having difficulty finding the driver for My Epson SX415 printer connected to my Time Capsule, any thoughts? Bonjour has kind of worked but I've had to use SX430 as a driver the 410 series does not appear in the list. Prints are not good! Or is this another topic now??

Can you boot into OS X and look at the chipset for the Network controller?

Can you check this link for the Epson SX415 drivers and choose the appropriate driver for W10?
