Q: No audio on Watchespn replays?

Hello!

For a few years now, I watch Wimbledon by watching the replays on the Watchespn app on my apple tv. You don't need a cable tv provider login to do this. Yesterday evening, I sat down to watch the replay of the first day, and after the ad played (with audio) the Wimbledon broadcast played, but with no sound. I tried a few times, then reset the apple tv, and tried a few more times. Finally, on the third try after reset, the coverage had audio. But we had to leave home, so I paused it. When I unpaused it played with sound for a few minutes until it stopped playing completely and I got the usual error message. This happens often when I've tried to "load" something by starting it and keeping it on pause and then wait too long to watch.

We have a slow rural internet connection and have to try all sorts of approaches to watch what we hope to. I wonder if this is a slow connection thing with apple tv? But why would the ads have audio?

I couldn't find anything online about it being an espn problem. And tried other replays, with the same result...ad has audio, coverage does not.

Please identify your ATV version, see Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support.

I wonder if the problem relates to some sort of language selection. On ATV 4, there's a pulldown menu in the player that allows selection of different audio tracks. I don't know how it works on your device, but I wonder if you've accidentally selected Spanish or French commentary on a program that has only English. And the commercials play fine because they pay no attention to such niceties.

Thank you for this idea, Diana...but I think I have an idea now about the problem. I finally found something at the Watchespn help page where there was a mention of them having to sometimes slow down the broadcast for some regulatory reason. I believe that this, combined with my sporadic internet connection is causing the issue. I kept trying to load it an hour or so ago, and there was no sound at all when it was really slow (except for the ads which are not regulated) but when it was slightly speedier once, the sound went in and out.

So I shall have to hope that our connection improves if I want to enjoy Wimbledon this year.
