Q: iMessage is stuck at Waiting for Activation.

Hi,

I've got iPhone 6 Plus with iMessage stuck at Waiting for activation. May what's wrong with it?. It's works with other carriers if I insert the sim card. Is the something related with SMS relay issue or something else?.

Need Assistance in solving my issue.

Thanks in Advance.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.3.2

I already tried that it doesn't work. It's An error occurred during activation now.

    Really?

    "tried that" means:

    • The two steps under "check your device settings".
    • The four steps under "turn off and restart iMessage and FaceTime".
    • The three steps under "still not activated after a day?".  Has it been over a day?
    • The two steps under "get more help".

So you do have a SIM card in your device or no?  Also, who is your carrier?

Obviously SIM card is in my device.

As for my carrier - I've contacted already, I can send & receive any messages from anyone (Tested this part & it works successfully).

There's no issues with my carrier end.

I'm still in touch with apple support but chat support proved to obsolete in the end. I'm in contact with phone support.

Ok, Just now got it fixed from Apple Phone Support. Chat is obsolete. It appears, it was technical glitch in the OS system installation itself since I updated iOS 9.3.2. from Wifi. I re-downloaded the iOS 9.3.2 software through itunes & re-installed the software, signed in my Apple ID before entering the home screen. I can see iMessage got activated smoothly.

Credits to Apple Phone support in assisting & finally solved my issue.

    Glad you got it solved.

As for the SIM card, while it may seem that I asked the obvious, the wording in your original post had mentioned other carrier's SIM cards but not your own carrier.  As you probably know, you do not need a SIM card to use iMessage/Facetime (true, neither will activate and iMessage will only work between other iDevice users but it will work).  The carrier question was to confirm that your carrier is a supported iPhone carrier (SMS will still work on an unsupported carrier, but iMessage will never activate without a workaround).

    Thanks for posting your followup.

I've already checked with Apple chat/Phone support , it's supported iPhone carrier & it's one of their partner.

My carrier name - Airtel & it was working fine before 3 months since I had temporary migrate to another country for personal reasons so I wasn't using it.  Forgot to mention it. I was pre-occupied to finding a way to solving to my issues from apple support.  I wasn't expecting a issue from iMessage when I insert my previous sim card itself.

I'm glad it's got fixed, it's technical glitch in the end. Safest way to upgrade the iOS in my iPhone through itunes itself. Credits goes to Apple phone support. I lost too much balance as it way sending too much international SMS as it was hurting me a lot. In the end, I could save something in the end when re-installed the OS & iMessage worked smoothly.

I have exactly the same situation but for me even changing the phone from 4s to 5s has not solved the problem. I have also swapped the Airtel SIM.

I will try reinstalling IOS 9.3.2 via iTunes and see if that makes any difference.

After using iTunes to upgrade to 9.3.3, there's absolutely no change. iMessage and Facetime just do not work.

    Hi,

I've got no clue why it's not working I suggest that you try to contact apple phone support. They are the only ones who guided me to work it out. So far, it's working for me still with no issues either.
