Delete the password from Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities). While there, Keychain Access menu First Aid.

Jul 2, 2016 3:23 PM in response to Volleymom21by PatENic,Have you checked if your online account is enabled for POP3 access? For my hotmail account, I had to login online (at hotmail.com) and do the following:
- Once I logged in, I clicked on the "gear" icon and chose "options".
- Then, under "Accounts" I clicked on "POP and IMAP".
- Then, under "POP options" I said "yes" to letting devices and apps use POP (apparently the default is to say no).
That's it. After months of frustration, this worked for me.”.
