Q: Carrier updates?

For two days I have been receiving messages on my iPhone 6s that my carrier has an update.  This does not appear anywhere I can see under settings.  The carrier, Consumer Cellular says it is an IOS update.  Does this make sense to anyone else?  This is not the same message I received earlier about updating my new iPhone 6s.  HELP?

Carrier updates can be done separately, or with iOS updates. It is an update of the carrier files, which are files the carrier uses to manage the device on their network. Once you see this notice, you can update the file. If you don't, then go to Settings>General>About, and the prompt should appear again.

you might be able to see it under settings - cellular....

if you see a message about carrier update, that means its an update from consumer cellular.

Carrier updates are somewhat common (depends on your carrier).  Sometimes these are mandatory.  Carrier settings updates are small files that can include updates from Apple and your carrier to carrier-related settings, such as   network, calling, cellular data, messaging, personal hotspot, and voicemail settings  The following article explains all of your concerns and how to update:

Thanks for all the replies.  They were all helpful.  Since my PC got hacked, I'm very nervous and cautious about anytime someone I do not expect offering me an update.

I don't blame you for being cautious. Carrier updates are not really a risk, however, you can get messages that look official but are actually scams, so it is always worth being cautious. If you are ever unsure, don't respond, but come here and ask. Also, see this: Phony "tech support" / "ransomware" popups and web pages
