Q: ibooks doesn't work on ios 9.3 or 9.3.1! ideas for fixing?

Hello guys,

since I updated my iphone 6 to ios 9.3 or also 9.3.1 ibooks is completly unuseable. Since i can't jump back to ios 9.2 anymore I really need to fix this. I have a rather large collection of PDFs, ebooks (not bought via itunes) and general epub data. Before the update i never had problems with ibooks whatsoever, even though the collection was big.

The problem is now:

1. I can't open any books in ibooks.

- they are there, i can see them but clicking on them does nothing. once every blue moon one might open but breaks down very fast again.

2. the round loading sign more or less never disappears

- i already let the sign load to its hearts content for a few hours till it stops but when you dare to use the app then it happens again

3. i can't delete any books/data in ibooks directly anymore

- when the loading sign stops and i attempt to delete sth. i can go through the deleting motions but after clicking on deleting nothing happens. the data is still there.

4. around 95% of the book covers/data covers are missing

- there are just the white boxes instead

- sometimes the covers will appear again when i wait really long for it, but when i scroll past them and then back ibooks "forgot" everything about this book again.

The problem also didn't disappear when using a new phone btw. I tried everything again with a new iphone 6s. still no change. it has to be a software bug.

Any ideas what i could do?

What I already tried:

1. on/off

2. hard reset

3. deleting everything and putting it back on (took hours and no change)

4. configure it as a new phone

5. deleting all settings (without deleting the media)

6. deleting everything apple/itunes/itunes mediathek from my pc and downloading it anew (which meant making the whole mediathek anew)

7. switching between backups

Could apple please do sth. about it?!

UPDATE 9 - THE LAST OF ITS KIND

Hey there, this will be my last update here for the time being. For two reasons:

    1) The employee still hasn't contacted me with a solution and probably never will.

    2) I may have or may haven't downloaded the ios 10 beta 1, where i had high hopes that the issue would be resolved.

in the end, ALL the ibooks issues still continue in ios 10! the way ios behaved, i really don't think that they did any changes in ibooks at all.

all this shows that apple doesn't give a **** about ibooks for the time being. well, apparently at least till september. I will continue going with the beta stuff and also join ios 10 public beta, but my hopes are not really there anymore.

In case sth. would change though, I will write it down here and inform everybody about the solution, but i won't do the regular updates till the **** is fixed.

I believe Apple is making iBooks only usable for APPLE-SOURCED epubs because they are losing money running the iBookStore. By no longer allowing non-Apple sourced ePubs (ie non-DRM ePubs), they hope to get more business. For now you can still get non-Apple ePubs into iBooks by emailing them to yourself but I would not be surprised if when iOS 10 is released that also will be blocked. I'm planning on moving away from iBooks and since in iOS 10 we can delete Apple apps, I'll most likely be deleting iBooks.

If Apple really wanted more people to patronize the iBookStore, all they would have to do are two simple steps:

    1. Comply with Steve Jobs wish and remove DRM from the books

    2. Cut prices to less than Amazon's prices for ebooks.

LLost me a bit there but what I want to know is can I claim a refund of all my ibooks if I can't read them? ( I'm now buying all my books from Amazon even if I don't like the format )

it constantly crashes, cannot even read the book or uninstall the app. Not only that I lost about 800 books!!!. The cloud obviously does NOT work.

    UPDATE 10

    1. we are at ios 10 public beta 4 and the issue still isn't resolved. IOS 10 BRINGS NO SOLUTION!

    2. also the apple worker has officially started to avoid all my messages (2 emails i wrote one month apart, not like i wrote him every week but i actually wrote that i feel kidded since after more than two months at least some feedback should have been possible). so from that end there is no solution EITHER.

Just confirms my suspicion that Apple is going iBookstore-only ePubs allowed in iBooks to stop people from buying them cheaper (and DRM-free) elsewhere. The goal is to force Apple users to buy only from the iBookstore.

Fortunately, with iOS 10, we'll be able to remove the iBooks app from our iDevices and use better eReader apps in its place.
