Q: iCloud Apple ID needs to be changed

My iCloud still has my old Apple ID. That email address in no longer in use.  How do I change iCloud to my new ID?  If I sign out of iCloud, do I lose my notes, etc. permanently or are they repopulated when I sign in again?

You can change the email address associated with your iCloud account without losing data such as your Notes, etc.

When you say your iCloud still has your "old" Apple ID, do you mean that it is signed in with the email address that your Apple ID used to use, but you have now updated that Apple ID to a new email address?

If so, then you can sign out the old version of the ID by simply typing in your current Apple ID password, and you will lose nothing when you then sign back in with the updated address for that iCloud account.

If you mean you set up a brand new Apple Account for your new ID, then when you sign out of that old ID, you will lose any iCloud-associated data that belong to that iCloud ID such as:

    Notes

    Photo Stream

    Reminders

    Mail

Contacts (unless you elect to "Keep" them on your device, then "Merge" them with the brand new iCloud accound)

    Calendars

Those items are directly linked to and a part of a particular iCloud account. Changing to a different iCloud account will remove those items and replace them with the same items from the new account with their own unique data.

    Best of luck,
