Q: Broadcast TV delivery request

My FCPX projects always have several separate bits of audio. I have always just assumed that in export all the audio files get mixed into a standard 2-channel stereo file - No muss, no fuss. A Broadcast TV client is requesting the following delivery format: DVCPro HD with multi audio channels (4 mono). DVCPro HD MXF export has the multi audio channels to support this requested configuration, but DVCPro HD export without the MXF is only the typical 2 channel stereo audio. I need those 2 channels of stereo audio 1 & 2 to be split into two mono panned L&R channels **AND** they need to be duplicated and placed on two more audio channels 3 & 4. Additionally, my Closed Captioning software (EPISODE) won't import MXF (but will export DVCPro HD MXF), hence me looking at DVCPro HD without the MXF, but then I lose the multiple audio channels. So my primary edit FCPX export may not need to be DVCPro HD at all, only hd, perhaps even h264 (small file size helps to be transferrable over the internet) - because the Closed Captioning software (EPISODE) does export the DVCPro HD format.

I exported the main edit out of FCPX at:

Format: Computer

Video codec: h.264 Better Quality

Resolution: 1920x1080

Pulled it into the Closed Captioning software (EPISODE) and exported out of there at the specs the client requested (DVCPro HD) with the MFX wrapper but the audio from the FCPX was only 2-channel stereo (originating from the initial FCPX export and remaining the same through the second EPISODE export. The client accepted everything EXCEPT the audio. They said all is good but to just "duplicate the audio from the first two channels and put it on channels 3 & 4." I don't see how to do that in FCPX.

Please advise.

Use the "roles" function in the timeline, split-off and dupe your audio channels as needed. Assign roles to your audio (MONO PAN L and MONO PAN R). Then go to "Export file". Select "settings". Go to "roles as" dropdown. Select "multitrack quicktime movie". In the window, click "add audio track".  Now select the appropriate audio track with its corresponding role. Rinse and repeat for as many channels of audio as you need
