Q: If your texting someone for the first time who doesn't have an iPhone will the message still send in iMessage? And if it does will it say delivered?

I Am trying to text a friend of mine but I don't know if he has an I phons or not. The messages sent in iMessage and read as delivered but I don't know if the message will only send in iMessage if it's to another iPhone or if it's a default setting to always text in iMessage, will it read as delivered?

    Cece,

Use Messages with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support explains how to use iMessage.

Basically, if a message is presented with a blue text bubble, iMessage was used. If the message is presented in a green text bubble, SMS was used.

    Hi,

This Thread is in Mavericks so the answer will be No, as the Mavericks version of Messages cannot send SMS (Text Forwarding on the iPhone at iOS 8 or above).

iMessages (blue outgoing bubbles) are to Mac's running Messages and iPhones that are on WiFi or a good enough Carrier Service to do iMessages.

SMS (In Yosemite and Above,  along with an iPhone at iOS 8 or above) sends green bubbled text and can do so to non apple devices.
