Q: I installed El Captian on my Mac and it fails once it gets close to the end of installation.

I am using an older version of Macbook Pro
El Capitan requires a MacBook Pro (Mid 2007 or newer) > Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support
Shut down your Mac then wait ten seconds and restart while holding down the Option key. That should open the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk, (MacintoshHD 10) then click Restart.

Ok... El Capitan takes about an hour and a half to download on a broadband connection.
If you still have problems, El Capitan requires approximately 9 GB's of storage space so you need to check that.
Click your Apple top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac then select the Storage tab to see how much free space is available.

See if you can use internet recovery.
Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
