Q: How do I pair my 6S with my MBP?  It seems impossible, yet my LG bluetooth headphones pair with both devices with no problem.

There is no need to pair it with the computer. You can pair it for use with an iWatch or BT speakers or keyboard. Since you don't say why you are trying to pair it with the computer we cannot give a truly specific answer for your question.

You cannot pair an iPhone with a computer over Bluetooth.  It not a supported action. And really no need to pair them.

What exactly do you want to accomplish by pairing them?

When I turned on airdrop, bluetooth came on.  I kept getting failed connection messages.  I think I remember in the past running the laptop on bluetooth, instead of hotspot.  At that time, I had too many devices using one hotspot; I have since gotten a Jetpack.  It may have been 3 years or so ago that it last worked for me.

BTW, if it is unsupported, why are the options to join the network and pair (iPhone) devices even offered?

Airdrop uses Bluetooth yes, but Pairing is not required not possible. You just need to have BT turned on on both.

You can Pair them when using Personal Hotspot to share your iPhone's internet connection. But that is the only time it is possible, and Personal hotspot needs to be turned on on the iPhone before you can Pair them.
