Ive tried several different things that everyones posted on here including login item and I don't have Wacom. It just seems to be so hit and miss with everyone one thing works for one or two people another works for someone else there seems to be so many variables to this problem. :-(

Jun 2, 2016 2:06 PM in response to shutterJJby dialabrain,Well. Wacom seems to be the most common cause. Then there was an audio add on mentioned earlier in this thread. That doesn't mean there couldn't be another cause. You could run EtreCheck and post your report so it can be looked at.

Jun 28, 2016 2:52 AM in response to buddysatby rodrigo259,IF you have Wacom / Bamboo tablet, uninstall it and the problem will be fixed. Mine was fixed by doing that!

Jun 30, 2016 3:13 AM in response to bmagargalby vanishing ghost,Have uninstalled Soundflower too. Now it works. Maybe after all it's an issue with audio-/video-plugins… thank you for the hints.

Jun 30, 2016 3:38 AM in response to vanishing ghostby vanishing ghost,PS) it's obviously not Soundflower after all. Seems to be a Finder problem. Quitting the Finder first and then restart/shutdown works on my Retina 27" late Oct 2015 (El Capitan10.11.5) but this can't be a solution…!?

Jun 30, 2016 4:39 PM in response to buddysatby rIshI__artIst,Deleted Little Snitch! Basically its because of any of the program not functioning properly, In my case Little snitch got corrupted which was churning out this problem!! The moment I removed . Finder was back to normal and shutdown/restart issue vanished.
Take backup. (although its not compulsory but take it for caution)
And then proceed to lastly if you are unable to find out that program then go to the recovery mode and run disk utility!
if no luck then go for fresh Os download in recovery.

El Capitan will not restart or shut down after I installed it on my MacBook Pro. It simply hangs up and does nothing and I have to manually shut down by holding the power button down.

Jul 2, 2016 1:30 PM in response to buddysatby poorfish,After installing EC downloaded from the App Store on a clean external Firewire drive partition, I reverted to SN to locate some files and Serial numbers in Mail and finished, attempted to restart in EC via Startup Drive - but EC did not show up. Now there seems to be no way to restart in EC and I fear that if there was a way, then shutting down the box would only activate the same problem.
Is there any way out of this conundrum? I need to occasionally switch back and forth between SN (10.68), and EC - both on external HD partitions.
Thanks
