Q: no sound or screen notifications for text

So this problem just started today. I have an iPhone 6 and I get no sound notifications for the texts my husband sends me but there is sound when i get calls from him or anyone else. Another weird thing is they do not pop up on the notification screen. My Do Not Disturb is not on, and my phone is not on silent, I have tried the assisted touch muting/unmuting, rebooting and turning off and neither of them have worked.. Currently getting it backed up to restore but that's taking a while. I'm hoping someone else has a different solution.

    Hi cynthp11,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. It looks like you are having some issues with notifications for text messages from your husband. I use my iPhone all the time and I depend on having those notifications alert me to when a message comes in. I will be happy to help with this. You've done some great troubleshooting thus far, thank you.

I see you were in the process of backing up the iPhone. That is a great thing to be doing. Here are some articles that go over backing up and syncing your photos to the computer as well.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Keep your photos safely stored and up to date on all your devices

Once you have the backup made, if you could then go to Settings > Notifications. On the Messages app, please slide the slider to off for "Allow Notifications" then slide it back on. Also, make sure that you have some type of sound showing under the "Sounds" section. Please also check to be sure that the "Show on Lock Screen" is turned on as well.

If you could then test it out, by having your husband text you. See if the iPhone notifications alert you with the sound and being shown on the lock screen. If it still doesn't alert you, please reset all settings. This will reset the items like alarms, background, brightness, Wi-Fi network passwords etc. You will need to re-enter those. To reset all settings go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Then please again test it out. If the iPhone is still not providing the notifications, the next step would be to do a restore to factory settings and set it up as a new iPhone. This will erase all data and settings off the phone, so it is important to make sure that you were able back up the iPhone.

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Once you have the iPhone set up as new, go into to Settings > Notifications and adjust the setting accordingly and then test out the Messages app by having your husband text you again. If it's working properly now, please then go ahead and restore from your backup and make sure it is still working as expected.

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

    Have a great day!
