Q: How does Health and Activity mesure BM (rest Kcal) ?

Hi everyone!!

I am the happy owner of an Apple Watch and an iPhone 6S plus, and recently I started paying a little bit more attention to Activity and Health, to do some measurments of my physical activity. I have a all-day standing job, and i do from 4 to 5 trainings a week, workout and cardio. Since I am a bit off charts with my physical status (1m89 and 116 kg), it was always dificult for me to do a precise mesure of my kcal needs for a day. But i realized that the watch, associated with my iphone's Activity app, does quite a precise measurment of my activity level, since it gives me a 2300-2500 basal metabolism and around 1000-1500 activity kcal per day, which is strongly similar to other tests I've been doing, medical ones included.

My question is: how does Activity and health app mesure basal metabolism? It is something that is determined with age, size and weight, but also physical activity, and I am wondering if, once we gave our size and weight on the health app, the watch itself corrects the value by adding the activity measurments everyday

If any of you has a deeper insight on how those measurments are done, they are very welcome !
