Q: Can't Parse Your Feed. Invalid XML. Error on line 150

Hi Everyone!

My name is Ira and I am volunteer at my church. I recently reestablished creating a new podcast page in the Apple Itunes last week. I have been waiting patiently to start seeing some of our sermons to appear on Itunes since June 24 since we received our approval notification email. I haven't seen anything a appears in days so I checked our Apple account to the podcast to see what the matter was.

We received this error message which I can't find answer for online.

Can’t parse your feed. Invalid XML: Error on line 150: Attribute name "disabled" associated with an element type "button" must be followed by the ' = ' character.

We published through Blubrry plugin on our wordpress website www.ImpactChurchOhio.com.

I don't know where you get the 'line 150' from - Podcasts Connect is simply saying it can't parse the feed.

This is because of line 24:

    <itunes:new-feed-url>https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/impact-church/id1127626150</itunes:new-feed-url>

This is a redirect which only works with iTunes and the Store, not with any other RSS reader, and is effectively redirecting the Store to its own address: which obviously is not going to work.

Just removing the line (though you need to do that) won't cure the problem since the Store is stuck on trying to parse its own page. Once you have removed the line, go to https://podcastsconnect.apple.com (sign in if necessary) and click on your podcast. This will bring up an info page with a field containing the current URL of your podcast (presumably it will show the Store page). Replace this with the correct URL and click 'Save'. Then click 'Update' and the page will check that your feed is valid. If there are any errors (there shouldn't be, the actual feed appears to be OK) you should correct them, then click 'Save' and 'Update' again. This will change the Store to using the new feed, but may take 1-2 days to do so.

The Store is currently showing a cached version of the feed from the last time it was able to read it. (Subscribing doesn't work.) You mention expecting to see new sermons appear, but even after you clear up the above problem there is still only the one episode in the feed ('Stay salty my friends').

I can't advise on how you use WordPress or Bluburry (which you are also using) but I would rather imagine that there must be a field in which you can enter a URL to go into the redirection tag I showed above, and you have mistakenly entered the Store page URL there. Blubrry have a forum where you may well get some help: http://forum.blubrry.com/

Is this correct URL http://impactchurchohio.com/feed/podcast/  not the other one which redirects me to the store?

These are the instructions I was following from Blubrry.

After you submit your podcast to iTunes

All podcasts submitted to iTunes are moderated. The process can take up to 10 days, though most submissions are approved within 3 days and on occasion only a few hours.

Apple will email the address you entered as your iTunes email in PowerPress settings when your podcast is approved. The message will be titled “iTunes Store Podcast Approved Notification” and will include your own unique iTunes subscribe URL. Please copy this URL and save it into the PowerPress settings > iTunes tab section in the “iTunes Subscribe URL” field.

See Email Notifications from iTunes Store in the Blubrry podcasting manual for detailed explanation of iTunes podcast notification emails.

They're telling you to enter it in the 'iTunes Subscribe' field, where you should enter the Store page URL. I don't know what the feed would redirect be called but you've entered the URL in the wrong field, the one you use when you want to redirect the Store to using a different feed.

I can't see that the manual page you link to has anything relevant. Their instruction regarding the itunes:new-feed-url tag is at the bottom of this page:

    https://create.blubrry.com/manual/syndicating-your-podcast-rss-feeds/changing-yo ur-podcast-rss-feed-address-url/

however it doesn't explain where exactly you should enter the new URL. I'm afraid you're going to have to take it up with Bluburry. You should do this as soon as possible since if the Store continues to be unable to access your feed for any length of time your podcast is likely to be removed from the Store.

OK I have found where to place the https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/impact-church/id1127626150  in Blubrry. They had added a separate tab for it called Destination. Video tutorials had failed or didn't know about the recent change.

It's now working correctly and can be subscribed to; you don't need to do anything else. It's showing the single episode which is in the feed. If you were expecting to see any further episodes that's a separate problem, and if you have added further episodes with playable media to the blog you will need to investigate why they haven't made it into the feed.

You can see that everything is working find? I hope so. I have some sermons submitted few days ago and one today. Where do I go to if I have issues for not seeing my sermons at podcast store?

    Thanks!

As I say, there's only one episode in the feed, so that is all iTunes and the Store can show. I did look at the website the feed links to but though there is a blog with a lot of episodes any playable media files aren't obvious. When you posted the episode which is currently there must have been something you did in Powerpress to get it into the feed which you haven't done with any subsequent episodes. I can't advise on what this would be; the Blubrry forum I linked to above would be a good place to ask if you can't find the details in their Help.

Are you sure you are using the correct feed? The one you linked to in your original post is indeed the one iTunes is using. Have you been updating a podcast feed but submitted a blog feed? Is the episode which is there one which should be?

As to WordPress, they have Help on podcasting at https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/podcasting/ - you are also using Blubrry PowerPress and they have a Help forum at http://forum.blubrry.com/

Not that it's any of my business but I did wonder what 'salty' meant in this context. Other than the plain scientific meaning, the word is usually used as a slang adjective for strong language - I suppose deriving from 'salt' - slang term for 'sailor' - and thus meaning the sort of strong language a sailor might use. I can't imagine this was the intention here.

At this point I don't know which link is use for a RSS feed and not. Please do not recommend the forum at Blubrry because it is not helpful at all! i have searched through their forum for answers and nothing came up. I Googled to see if anyone has  the same issues and Google search results were not very helpful.  I went Blubrry manual on the parts I feed issues again not useful.  I tried to search about Itunes issues with Blubrry.  I am thinking about deleting the Blubrry plugin and start over because I have to create too many logins ids and passwords it is very frustrating, Apple ID, Itunes, Blubrry, Apple Connect etc.

I might have to talk to my Pastor to see he can get the people that created our website to get the podcast working again. They had it setup that it automatically upload mp3 to Itunes.  The only episode that was uploaded sucessfull probable an old blog post that is hidden on the website. I don't know how it got uploaded.

Stay salty is an Biblical expression I think.

We are salt. Salt is essential. Even more than seasoning, salt is a guard against spoilage. We are here to keep all that is good and true from spoiling.

We are of the earth. We aren’t designed to separate ourselves from the world. Our homes, our offices, our neighborhoods—earthy as they may seem, are exactly where God scattered us to add heavenly-flavors to everyday, ordinary life.

And we are to stay salty. Jesus warns that if our values become so much like the world that we no longer recognize and take a stand against injustice, impurity, and corruption, the world will trample us underfoot as irrelevant and useless.

Remember, regardless of what you see when you look in the mirror, Jesus wants you to know that you are his twenty-four-carat disciple. Stay salty, my friend!

Well, there you are - you've satisfied my philological interest.

I hope you'll be able to get it sorted: I don't know whether if you contact Blubrry directly they may be able to help. It isn't obvious from what I saw on the blog page on the site you linked to in the feed where the media files are in all this. Posts which don't include media files probably won't get into a feed meant for podcasting since iTunes will not display such posts anyway.
