Q: Clash with email account and iCloud

Before I had a new Mac running under El Capitan, I didn't have an iCloud account but had an Apple ID which used the same email address as my NTL account.  This caused no problems whatsoever. However now I have set up this Mac with my Apple ID which I have used for my iCloud too, I am unable to set up my NTL account as it says you can only enable one account with the same name.  I use my Apple ID for my iTunes and don't wish to change that.  I've also had my NTL account address for years so don't really want to do that.  Is there any way around this?  I tried to edit my Apple ID but it wouldn't allow me to change anything.
