Jul 3, 2016 7:08 PM in response to harshjn90by Meg St._Clair,I'd give some serious thought to sticking that metal piece to a cast rather than directly to the back of your iPhone. Getting anything with even moderately strong adhesive off the back of an iPhone can do damage.

The phone uses GPS for navigation, not the compass. So, whether or not the compass functions is irrelevant to this use case.

The compass is moderately useful for manual navigation (you're out in the woods, you can't find the trail and you need to know which way is north so you can orient yourself to the paper map you're staring at).
The compass is NOT necessary if you are using a GPS-based navigation app such as Maps, Google Maps or Waze. GPS apps get their location information from satellites way up in the sky. The magnetic mount will NOT interfere with GPS. You CAN use a magnetic mount and GPS navigation at the same time. I'm not sure how many more ways there are to say that.
