Q: replace unsupported Cannon printer or download 3rd party driver?

Any recommendation over whether I would be better off buying a new compact portable printer or attempt to download a  Gutenprint driver that would apparently make the old unsupported Cannon iP90 printer usable again.  The info sheet of Gutenprint sounds quite technical  -    I am not!  Don't want to create any more difficulties with my existing printer set up! 

any steer would be welcome!
