Jul 5, 2016 10:03 AM in response to bayswaterby ChrisJ4203,That is showing that your exact location isn't known. You are within that "blue blob" as you describe it. That changes as your location is more defined. This happens in any GPS location system.

Jul 5, 2016 10:11 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by bayswater,Yes, I know why the blob is there. I don't need to be told constantly that my exact location is unknown by the maps app. Is there a way to get rid of it?

Jul 5, 2016 12:03 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by bayswater,??
Locations services are fine and useful. The blob is the problem. The presence of the blob is not a necessary condition for location services to work. While it can be useful in some circumstances it doesnt need to be there continually. Any number of other applications using location services manage to operate without obscuring the information they present.

Jul 5, 2016 12:06 PM in response to bayswaterby ChrisJ4203,It is live information on the map. It stays there to how how the map is locating you. It will continue to show that unless the device gets a better location on you. I generally only see this rarely, and if I do, it is only for a short period of time and it disappears as the location is refined. I wonder if you are having some issues with location services. You would need to be connected to wi-fi for this to be as accurate as possible. Since you post this in the iPad forum, are you using the Map when not connected to wi-fi?

Jul 6, 2016 4:29 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by bayswater,IIt's an iPad connected by wifi. I assume location services work because it and other apps correctly identify the street address and follow reasonably accurately as I move around.

Jul 6, 2016 8:48 AM in response to bayswaterby ChrisJ4203,That is correct, until you are no longer connected to wi-fi. Also, if there are not very many wi-fi networks in the area that have been identified, your accuracy will be lower, hence the "blue blob" as you refer to it will be larger. The more accurate the location identification, the smaller the circle.
