Jun 23, 2016 1:26 PM in response to BillGSby Kilgore-Trout,★HelpfulIf both of those are already synced via iCloud, you would not necessarily need to export anything. That assumes you are going to wipe the device clean and set it up as your own (on your AppleId, not her's). Just don't delete them before you sign out of her iCloud account.

Jun 23, 2016 1:28 PM in response to Kilgore-Troutby BillGS,I misspoke. I don't believe she had an iCloud account, and if If she did, I am unable to access it. If useful, I am able to connect her iPad to my computer.

Jun 23, 2016 2:46 PM in response to BillGSby sberman,It sounds as if you would be perfectly happy to start with what looks like a brand new iPad as far as contents are concerned. That is a clean way to proceed.
Simply clean the iPad as shown here before you "move in".

Jun 24, 2016 5:05 AM in response to BillGSby Kilgore-Trout,Without her AppleId, that isn't going to be much help. Is she using any sort of iOS or Mac device now?

Jun 25, 2016 8:21 AM in response to sbermanby BillGS,Thanks for the link. What I hope to do is preserve her notes and contacts before cleaning the iPad.

Jun 25, 2016 8:23 AM in response to Kilgore-Troutby BillGS,She had an iPhone and a Mini iPad, both of which I now have. She did not use a Mac but a Dell laptop.

Jun 27, 2016 12:05 PM in response to BillGSby Kilgore-Trout,★HelpfulIf she still has the Dell, and still has iTunes installed you could back up to it. You best bet is to recover her Apple Id and sync those items to iCloud (and back them up) before attempting top wipe it. At any rate you will likely need the AppleId to set it up as a new device for your use.

Jun 27, 2016 12:35 PM in response to Kilgore-Troutby BillGS,I have discovered her Apple ID, but when I tried to reset the password the email of record to which the reset info would be sent no longer exists since that account was closed. I'll see if I have better luck with the Dell. Thanks.

Jul 5, 2016 1:17 PM in response to Kilgore-Troutby BillGS,I have access to her Dell and it has iTunes. How do I back up to iTunes without an iCloud password?

Jul 5, 2016 2:37 PM in response to BillGSby sberman,This explains how to back up using iTunes:
How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Be certain that these notes and contacts you are trying to preserve go into some iTunes account that is associated with her (and specifically nobody else's) stuff.
If, for example, you used an iTunes version previously associated with someone else's Apple ID, and tried to backup her iPad to it, you would end up with a mess.
Further, the Dell must be running a current version of iTunes, which requires Windows 7 or later.

Jul 8, 2016 5:01 PM in response to sbermanby BillGS,I have successfully backed up to iTunes on the Dell. Now I need to know how to extract the contacts from the back up. Is that possible? If not, is there a way via USB to copy her contacts from her iPad to my iMac without merging them with my contacts? To recap, I would like to export her contacts file as a PDF for possible future reference. (I have copied the notes I wanted to save, so"notes" is no longer a part of my issue.)
