Q: I recently switched to ATT Uverse Internet.  How do I set up my 2TB Time Capsule so that I have backups for my MAC?  ATT is telling me that the ATT router and the Time Capsule will compete and cause problems for me.  Please help.

How to set up Time capsule 2TB to work with ATT NVG599?

Time Capsule, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)

Thanks Bob.  This is exactly what worked.  My question now is that I have the Time Capsule network (including Guest for the Time Capsule)  name showing up and that is the network I choose and it works.  I also see the ATT network (including Guest for ATT).  My other devices (Iphone, Ipad, etc.) are still connecting to the ATT network and do not communicate with my MAC.  Why am I see all of these different networks.

Sorry, but we did not get an answer to our previous question above about whether you could "see" the settings for the Time Capsule using AirPort Utility on your Mac. Let's try again please.

    On your Mac.....open AirPort Utility.......(Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility)

Click on the picture of the Time Capsule, if it appears, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears

The next window will display a summary of settings for the Time Capsule with tabs for Base Station, Internet, Wireless, Network and Disks.....like the example below:

Does this appear on your Mac?

To answer your other questions about visible multiple wireless networks, the short answer is that you have two devices both acting as a router on your network, each device produces a "main" and "guest" network.  You probably don't need (or want) that many different networks.

The ATT modem/router produces two wireless networks......a "main" and and "private" network.....so that is two networks.  And, the Time Capsule produces two networks, a "main" and "guest" network.

So, right now you are seeing a total of four networks.  Don't worry about that for now, please.

Later on, you may decide that you don't really need 4 networks, so the logical choice since you need the Time Capsule wireless for backups would be to turn off the wireless function of the ATT modem/router, so your wireless networks will look just like they did before you added the ATT modem/router.  Unfortunately, you did not really need a modem/router from ATT....all that you really needed was a modem.....but I'm not sure if ATT offers that option or product.

For now, my advice would be for you to connect to the TC wireless network with all of your devices, like you were doing before you had the ATT device, and simply ignore the ATT wireless.

Hi Bob.  I did this and it works.  However now I have the Time capsule Network (as well as the Time Capsule Guest network) and the ATT Network (as well as ATT guest network).  I am unable to print from my MAC and my other devices are not working with my MAC.  Any suggestions?

On your AT&T router/gateway, log in to the admin panel and disable the wireless. I believe the default IP for AT&T is 192.168.1.254. Your username and password should be on the box. Navigate to the wireless setup page and disable the wireless.

When you say that "it works", does this mean that you are able to see the settings for the Time Capsule in AirPort Utility?  We ask because there are some settings that will need to be checked and probably changed to allow the Time Capsule to work correctly with the ATT modem/router.

Unfortunately, the Time Capsule may not be able to provide a Guest Network function when it is set up work correctly with the ATT modem/router, but it will provide your "main" network as it has been doing before.

Your original post mentioned that you needed to get Time Machine backups going again from your Mac.  Is that still the case, or when you say that "it works", does that mean that backups are now working correctly?

Sorry for all the questions, but we can only take one thing at a time, cannot "see" your network, and things that might appear obvious to you are not known to us.

I have the guest network functioning with my parents AT&T router. I can check the settings there if need be.
