Q: How do I correctly bridge my Airport Extreme to my Time Capsule?

I am trying to set up an Airport Extreme as a bridge to my Time Capsule via ethernet, so I can extend the reach of my network. However, when I followed this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204616 I didn't see an option to "Share a public IP address" because the step by step appears to be older than my current Airport Utility. How do I make sure that setting applies?

In the new version of the airport utility the setup should be near automatic.

Simply plug the new Extreme into the TC with a patch ethernet cable.. WAN Extreme to LAN TC.

Then run through the setup wizard in the airport utility.

Use your own names.. not apple recommended.. I strongly suggest using short names.. <10 characters pure alphanumeric no spaces.

It should then come up with extend by wire (ethernet).

If it fails we can do it manually.. it is simple setup.

Share a public IP is irrelevant as it is handled by the TC anyway.

The Extreme is dhcp on the Internet tab.

Create a wireless network on the wireless tab.

And bridge on the Network tab.

Unfortunately, the examples and information in the Apple support document that you reference are 4+ years old, and bear almost no resemblance to the settings that have been used in AirPort Utility since the Lion operating system was introduced.

The other unfortunate thing is that some of the information in the support document is not correct.

The good news is that assuming that you have a Mac using a current or recent operating system or an iPhone or iPad......you can use Apple's setup "wizard" to virtually make the process of adding your AirPort Extreme automatic.  All that you really have to do is name the AirPort Extreme....and the wizard takes care of everything else for you.

We assume that the Time Capsule is working normally, correct?

And, we assume that you have tested the Ethernet cable that will connect the AirPort Extreme to the Time Capsule, correct?

We also assume that you have performed a Hard Reset on the AirPort Extreme, correct?

Will you be using a Mac or an iPhone or iPad for the setup?
