Q: my wireless keyboard will not pair with my Mac Mini

My Apple wireless keyboard will not pair with my Mac Mini. The keyboard is recognized and a prompt appears to type in numbers. After I type in the numbers and press enter the pairing fails. I have replaced the batteries.

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), 2014

Was the KB paired with something else? if so, delete it from there. A Bluetooth device may only be paired with one thing at a time.
