Q: Track 'No Longer Available'

I matched my music library with Apple Music when I first signed-up.  Now, I am finding that random tracks from albums that were matched have an iCloud Status of 'No Longer Available'.

I guess this is a licensing issue or something, but surely if the track was mine and I uploaded it - or Apple matched it - shouldn't I always be able to use it?

It annoys me that some albums that I've added to 'My Music' become unavailable, but this is usually because the edition has changed ('remastered', '20th anniversary', etc) and Apple chooses to substitute one for the other - rather than keeping all available.  I can fix that online, but the only way I can see to fix my other issue is to delete and reload the track from backup.

Any thoughts/ideas?

    Hey there Bernard Harte,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

We'll check out those music libraries and matching them. It sounds like you may have more than one device using Apple Music? Although it seems perplexing to have items become "No Longer Available", let's start with a few basics.

    1) Confirm that each device is signed in, using the same Apple ID.

    2) Ensure that iCloud Music Library is enabled on all devices. You can find those steps below.

    3) Confirm that the items are authorized for playback. You can find those steps below, as well.

Sync Apple Music across your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and computer

Add music from your own collection to your Apple Music library

How Apple Music handles your uploaded songs

    • Songs that contain DRM (Digital Rights Management) must be authorized for playback on your Mac or PC to be matched or uploaded.

    Cheers.

Thanks for your continued patience, Bernard Harte,

We have a few additional questions to help isolate your specific issue. First and foremost, let's ensure that your original media is safe and sound. Follow the steps here to backup your iTunes and media library:

Manage and back up your iTunes media library

And for safe measure, always have a backup of your iOS device:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you could confirm the following, we shall proceed:

    1) Are you an iTunes Match subscriber along with Apple Music?

    2) Which devices are you experiencing this issue on?

Finally, if you still have the original media, let's attempt the following:

    1) On an iOS device: Turn off iCloud Music Library and sync the original media back onto the device. When you enable iCloud Music Library again on your device, be sure to choose "Merge" as you did previously.

    2) On a computer: Delete the songs from the computer and the iCloud Music Library. Re-import the songs from the original source, then choose File > Library > Update iCloud Music Library from the iTunes menu bar.

If you're still experiencing the same issues with different song versions, give us a holler. We'll get you pointed in the right direction.

    Cheers.

    1.  No just Apple Music.

    2.  The problem shows up on my Mac.  None of the iOS devices has a means of showing the iCloud Status column (as seen in Mac iTunes) so far as I am aware.

Sure, with the original media I can re-import the song after I have deleted the iTunes track, but this seems like a lot of work for (at current count) 260 tracks.  Surely, a paid service should work without this need for the user to do maintenance?

    Bernard Harte,

Thanks again for your understanding and patience. Having music available one day, and incorrectly showing the next, can absolutely toss up a few flags. With the information provided, the solution will be to re-import that original content from a backup. Moving forward, you may also wish to get in touch with us here:
