Q: Chapter images don't display properly in Podcasts app

My podcast is here: https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/jeffmix-podcasts/id306894038?mt=2

I use an old version of GarageBand '09 to create the enhanced podcast file. (I only recently found out the latest version of GB strips away that functionality.) Generally, it still works great, except that when I play episodes in the iOS Podcasts app, the chapter images are a bit messed up (and always have been). The chapters work fine, but the images are often one chapter behind. Sometimes it works, but often it doesn't. It's a music podcast, so it's odd to be hearing one song, but see the cover image of another. I could just delete these chapter images, as the chapters themselves work fine. But I'd love to have a fix. I thought I'd start here before I start spending hours investigating solutions. Any help is appreciated!

The chapter images work OK in iTunes on a Mac (provided you know how to bring them up, which isn't obvious). I can't test on the Podcasts app as I don't have an iOS device; my understanding is that it doesn't show these images anyway, though you are reporting that it does but incorrectly. Since the actual media files appear to be OK I don't think it's likely you can do anything about this, but you could try asking in the Podcasts app forum where someone may be able to check whether it's happening for them as well and perhaps offer advice.

Thanks for looking into this, Roger. I dp see that the chapter images are displaying properly in iTunes, but as you mentioned, it's not easy to find. I'll try the Podcasts forum, although I think it might lead me back here.

I've seen that some people report chapter images not displaying at all on iOS devices – that hasn't been my experience. I have seen one podcast where they display perfectly, and it makes me wonder how they managed it.

On that point, I know that GarageBand, which is software a lot of folks used to first make podcasts, has essentially killed the enhanced-podcast functionality. Is there other software that is recommended for doing that?

    Thanks again

As you say, Garageband has removed the facility, and indeed though iTunes hasn't actual removed the ability to play them it's not immediately obvious that there are chapter images to people who aren't familiar with this. I believe that for Macs Fission and Feeder can do this (I've not tried them.)
