Q: My iPhone 5s cannot send photos

Hi, I have an iPhone 5s with the latest version of software installed.

I cannot text any photos at all, I cannot AirDrop photos, and I can only email one photo at a time, even if I select multiple. I also cannot look at photos clearly or watch videos when not connected to Wifi, and it's super annoying. Even when I am connected to Wifi, my pictures take a few seconds to clearly load.

When I try to text a photo, it takes a little bit to load, and then once it does it doesn't even show up in my message bar.

When I try to AirDrop a photo, it takes a good 30 seconds to load, and then it says failed to send. If I try again, it just says failed to send instantly.

And when I try to email a photo, it can only send one at a time, which is extremely tedious. Even if I select 2 or 3, it only puts one in the actual email.

I think that my phone saves my photos to the iCloud immediately to try to conserve storage, but if I can't even use, send, or look at them, there's no point to it. I never had this issue before all of these new updates, and it is really frustrating. Please help if you know how to fix this, any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi luigifan10,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Based on your post, I see that you cannot text or AirDrop photos, and you can only email one photo at a time even if you select multiple. You are also not able to look at photos or watch videos clearly when using Wi-Fi or Cellular Data. I send photos on my iPhone all the time, so I know it's critical we get this issue resolved. I have a couple things that I'd like you to try.

First, let's see if any apps running in the background of your iPhone are causing an issue. Please double-tap the home button and swipe up to close all open apps. This article will help:

Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Next, go ahead and give your iPhone a fresh restart:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

After you've restarted your device, test and see if you get the same result.

    All the best.

This, unfortunately, did not work at all. I restarted twice and closed all of my applications. The same problems still happen.

    Hello luigifan10,

This issue may be with the iCloud Photo Library and the time it takes to download the full resolution photo that you are sending. This can take some time depending on the strength of the Internet Connection (Wi-Fi). I would advise to test this on different networks and at multiple physical locations to see if you get the same result.

I would also like to share How to use AirDrop with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has the requirements for sharing content with AirDrop, specifically, this section:

    What you need

To share content with AirDrop, both people need one of these devices using iOS 7 or later, or a Mac with OS X Yosemite or later:

    • iPhone 5 or later
    • iPad Pro
    • iPad (4th generation) or later
    • iPad mini or later
    • iPod touch (5th generation) or later

You also need to turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. If you want to share with your contacts, sign in to iCloud.

If you still needed assistance, please contact Apple Support using the link below:

    Best Regards.

Ok so I figured it out- I had to go into Settings -> iCloud -> Photos -> And then choose the option "Download and Keep Originals". I do have less space on my phone now, but I can at least send photos. Thanks for all of your suggestions, but this is what solved my issue.
