Q: iPhone will only charge connected to a computer

My iPhone will only charge when connected to a computer. It was fine this morning and then suddenly it wont charge when connected to adapter for a wall plug or in my car. I have tried 2 different USB cables and they both work with the computer but not the adapter for a wall plug or in my car. I have connected my iPad to both cables and the adapter for the wall plug and it charges just fine. Its just my phone, not the cables, not the adapters.....So has anyone else had this issue? Should I reset the phone? I was hoping to not have to go that far, but I'll do what I have to do. Or do you think my phone is broken?

    Try doing a hard reset while connected to a wall charger: Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.

     

    If that doesn't solve the issue, you could also try backing up the device and restoring the device as new.

     

    In that case, follow the steps in: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137

     

    NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring as new, it may be neccesary to offer the device for service.

     

    If you're not able to restore the device, this one might help: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

     

    Using his article will erase everything on the device, so make sure you have a backup!

    Well interesting development (I saw this on other boards) was that after it had achieved a certain charge (I tried it at 28%) it started being able to charge from the wall charger again.... Doesn't make sense to me, maybe the battery is just slowly going bad and I will have to replace it at some point. But thanks so much for the detailed response, I apperciate the help a lot.

    I had this issue for about a week.

    Tried 3 different wall chargers and cable combinations none worked.

    Did a google search this issue

    Found this site

    Did the hard reset while the phone was plugged in the wall as suggested.

    and it worked!!

    What an old thread but I just had this issue on my 6 and the hard reset worked perfectly. It would only charge from my macbook usb and the same cord wouldn't work in the wall.

    Thank you! My iPhone 6 was only charging from my MacBook and I was contemplating getting another phone due to the inconvenience; however, the hard reset worked!
