Please carefully read Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode - Apple Support, this will help you determine if your iMac will work in TDM. In short if your iMac is a 27" model and the MM has the correct ports then yes. Apple does a great job of explaining which machines will work in the article and also advises how to connect them.
