Q: Best set-up for a two person family with multiple devices?

We are a husband and wife who (happily) share one iMac and one iPhone.  We each have individual iPads.

We have one Apple ID.

Will setting up Family sharing be of any benefit or detriment?

Will adding a second Apple ID be of any benefit or detriment?

Thanks for any recommendations, even those that say leave well enough alone.

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.1

It is essential that each of you has a separate Apple ID. That's the only way to keep individual data separate. I would also advice to set up separate User Accounts to further the notion of individual accounts. Since, up to date, all purchases were made on one of those accounts, that person should set Family Sharing to allow access to all those purchases to the other person.

2 people, 2 Apple ID's is the best way, especially if you want to use family sharing.

Impossible for anyone to tell you "best"

What are your needs? Requirements? What are you not able to do right now that you think is needed for you? What are you able to do right now that you want to retain?

Too many variables for a short answer.
