Q: Itunes will not recognize old shuffle and songs stop at 30 seconds
I have an old shuffle, 1mb, maybe a 2nd gen, gold (A1204 EMC). iTunes (12.4.1, iOS 10.11.4) has problems with the shuffle. It quickly recognizes the shuffle, which momentarily appears as a mounted device and mounts on the desktop, then reports that it is not found. The shuffle disappears from the desktop and I get a warning saying it was removed without ejecting.
ITunes then freezes and I have to force quit.
I can charge up the shuffle, but when I go to listen to the songs, they last 30 seconds or less, then the next one starts and in 30 seconds or so, it stops followed by another song.
I tried resetting (turn on, turn off for 5 seconds and turn on) many times but nothing changes. I tried erasing using disk utility (15.0). The shuffle will not unmount for the process to work.
Any suggestions. My 2009 iPod Touch works better than this newer shuffle. I like to use the shuffle when doing yard work.

I did not get any suggestions so I fired up my old G4, OS10.4.11 and iTunes 2.1. The shuffle was recognized by synced to another computer. When I was offered the opportunity to erase and fill with songs from the G4, I went for it. I did have to recreate the playlist.
The shuffle has been working fine the past few days so I thought I would try to sync it with my MacBook Pro. Once again I received the warning that the shuffle was synced to my G4. I am now erasing it and filling it with new songs. I am confident that it will work fine....
